SCOPE School Global: Obesity & CVD

2021-09-24

Revisiting the bi-directional relationship between obesity and cardiovascular disease across the life course

27-28 October 2021

The World Heart Federation and World Obesity Federation are hosting another SCOPE School Global on cardiovascular disease (CVD) and obesity. Recognising that obesity and CVD are associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality, as well as reduced life expectancy, the overall objective of this event is to understand the clinical approaches that can help optimise treatment and care for people living with obesity and CVD.

Aimed at cardiologists and other healthcare professionals, the course ensures that by the end of the event the participant will:

  • Have an increased awareness of CVD complications and obesity.
  • Understand the challenges to find effective treatments for people with obesity and CVD.
  • Be able to effectively manage patients presenting with obesity and CVD and understand the overall benefits of the multidisciplinary approach.
  • Be able to discuss the importance of recognising obesity and CVD to managing adolescents, adults, and elderly patients with CVD and/or obesity.
  • Understand the obesity paradox in patients with obesity and CVD and discuss how this relates to clinical outcomes.
  • Be able to discuss the psychological impact for patients living with obesity and CVD.

With a focus on global health problems, we will speak to these issues with the involvement of specialists in the obesity and cardiological field.
